We would like to introduce you to a few terms so that you may
better understand how our Kachinas are designed.
Most Kachinas do not have faces, but have masks which help to
represent the characteristics of the spirits they are meant to
represent. However, some specialty dolls do have
faces, rather than masks. These faces are made from a
polyester-resin mold which comes from an original which was
hand-carved from wood. Many Kachinas are available as
hooded dolls which have masks which can be removed and have
faces beneath the mask. These are generally available in the 10"
and 24" sizes. A few Kachinas are available as
Father & Son.
These dolls come in pairs with a 10" and a 6" together on the same
base. We also have a number of Kachinas available as Christmas
ornaments. These ornaments are the same as the 4" dolls, but
instead of a cedar base, they have a leather strap for hanging.
All items are carved from aspen wood, trimmed with leather, fur,
and feathers from non-endangered animals and set on cedar bases
(except Christmas ornaments).
Each Kachina is individually hand made and unique. Sample
pictures are provided as an indicator of the quality and style of
the dolls. Actual dolls ordered will vary in color and
detail.
